Jacob Fowler teams up with leo&hyde for pop / musical theatre crossover single ‘rain before the rainbow’

Jacob Fowler has teamed up with leo&hyde to release pop / musical theatre crossover single ‘rain before the rainbow’.

The track, from award-winning LGBTQIA* musical GUY, is available to stream and download now here.

Released as the lead single from leo&hyde’s upcoming EP double life, the song features lyrics by Leo Mercer, music/production by Stephen Hyde and sound production by Dan Mawson with artwork by Sam Gee, marketing by Hannah Salter and socials by Louis Glazzard.

Body dysmorphia, hyper self-criticism, and the inner saboteur unify our shared experience of being human rather than alienate us.

Inspired by lived experience of male body issues within the LGBTQIA+ community, alongside mainstream pressure to look a certain way, rain before the rainbow merges pop and musical theatre to discuss complex subject matters, with an overarching reminder to #shutdownyourfantasyself and live authentically.

Jacob’s credits include JD in Heathers, Bobby in Dreamcoats and Petticoats, and in 2022, Jacob will play Topher in the European premiere of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella.

Discussing his collaboration with Manchester-based queer led musical theatre production company leo&hyde, Jacob said: “Pop…can teach musical theatre not to be so pretentious…and musical theatre can teach the pop world that artistic integrity does matter.”

He went onto say something which is a mantra for leo&hyde: “There’s space for more types of musical theatre to exist.”
