Keala Settle on The Masked Singer UK

West End and Broadway star Keala Settle was revealed as a contestant on The Masked Singer UK this weekend.

The ITV1 series has seen a character dressed as Air Fryer capture fans’ attention with their exceptional vocal performances.

Saturday night saw the identity behind the mask of Air Fryer finally disclosed as The Greatest Showman star Keala Settle.

The guessing panel, which made various predictions including Ella Henderson, Whoopi Goldberg, Rebel Wilson, and Jennifer Hudson, did not guess Settle’s identity correctly. However, several show fans had accurately identified her before the reveal.

Settle said: “It was petrifying and freeing all at the same time.”

She shared of singing as a giant air fryer: “It is somewhat heavy, but it’s been built so brilliantly by the costume team.

“As a performer you already have this facade that you go on stage with, but in this show, the facade is literally the character. The Masked Singer, it’s been scary and the most inspirational thing that I’ve done in my life.”

Clues to Air Fryer’s identity included baking – a nod to Settle’s time in Waitress on Broadway – and barber scissors – a reference to her role as ‘bearded lady’ Lettie Lutz in The Greatest Showman.

Throughout the series, Air Fryer delighted the audience with a series of performances that showcased a wide range of musical talents.

Starting strong, she performed “Kings & Queens” by Ava Max, followed by a rendition of “The Final Countdown” by Europe, adding a competitive edge to her appearances.

Notably, her yodelled performance of “Lonely Goatherd” from The Sound Of Music stood out as a clue song in Episode Five, followed by a powerful performance of “Defying Gravity” from Wicked.

Her journey culminated in a heartfelt rendition of “I’m Outta Love” by Anastacia.

The Masked Singer UK airs on ITV1 and ITVX.
