New Jack v Giant musical makes world premiere at Polka Theatre

Polka Theatre kicks off its spring 2023 season with a new musical adaptation of Jack and the Beanstalk.

The bold re-imagining of the classic, Jack v Giant opens on 11 February at the London venue for young audiences and runs to 26 March.

The fairy tale will be brought enchantingly to life on the stage with beautiful puppetry, songs and music, for children ages 4-8 and their families.

Join Jack, a brave young girl who embarks on a giant adventure when she sells the family cow in return for magic beans… Come on an unforgettable musical journey from underground gold mines, climbing the beanstalk, to a golden castle in the sky in this exciting re-imagining of the classic fairy tale.

From the team behind the hugely popular We’re Going on a Bear Hunt and How To Hide a Lion, Jack v Giant is co-written by Polka’s Artistic Director Peter Glanville ahead of his new appointment at Farnham Maltings, and Barb Jungr (The Singing Mermaid), directed by Roman Stefanski (The Night Before Christmas, Sarah and Duck), with original puppetry by Keith Frederick (Peter Pan at Polka). Designer Laura McEwen (The Singing Mermaid, The Everywhere Bear) returns to Polka, having designed the interior of the new Polka building, which opened in Summer 2021.

The cast is Hannah Akhalu as ‘Jack’ and Henry Regan as ‘Father’.

Peter Glanville said: “Polka are delighted to be producing this new musical inspired by the classic Jack and the Beanstalk story. We hope that children and families alike will be entranced by our tale, which takes us beneath the ground to gold mines, through the sky on a beanstalk and into a Giant’s palace in the clouds.”
