New musical Mallory On The Mountain to debut at The Lowry

New musical Mallory On The Mountain is to debut at The Lowry in Salford this month.

Part of the venue’s annual Rewrites festival, the piece will be showcased in concert on 19 October 2022.

The musical has a book, music and lyrics by Ollie Mills and is currently in development with Imaginality Productions and was workshopped at Hope Mill Theatre last year.

The show is based on the true story of George Mallory, who grew up in the North West before going on to pioneer the original attempts on Everest in the 1920s.

We’re 800ft from the top of the world and a storm is closing in. To push on would be perilous; to turn back would mean failure…what is it worth?

Witness the gripping true story of British mountaineer George Mallory and his journey from the small town of Mobberley to the heights of Mount Everest. As he battles the perishing cold with his trusted companion, Sandy Irvine, George relives the pivotal chapters of his life that led him to this fateful moment.

The concert version of the musical will feature a cast led by Alex Cosgriff as George Mallory and Emma Harvey as Ruth Mallory with direction by Mills.
