Shakespeare’s Globe reveal cast for Deutsche Bank production of The Tempest

Casting has been announced for this year’s Playing Shakespeare with Deutsche Bank production of The Tempest.

Diane Page (Julius Caesar, Globe Tour 2022) will direct the production, created especially for young people, which runs at Shakespeare’s Globe from 18 March – 15 April, alongside the schools’ project.

The cast includes Aoife Gaston and David Huntley, who both return to Playing Shakespeare after featuring in the 2022 production, Macbeth. Joining them are Azan Ahmed, Charlie Cameron, David Ijiti, Emma Manton, Lloyd McDonagh, Archie Rush, Bea Svistunenko and Zheng Xi Yong.

The creative team is completed by assistant director Danielle Kassarate, casting director Nicholas Hockaday, composer Simon Slater, costume supervisor Claire Nicholas, designer Moi Tran fight directors RC Annie, globe associate – movement Glynn Macdonald, head of voice Tess Dignan, movement director Asha Jennings-Grant and text associate Simon Trinder.

With the support of Deutsche Bank, as part of its global youth engagement programme ‘Born to Be’, over 26,000 free tickets are offered to pupils aged 11-16 at London and Birmingham state schools, with subsidised tickets for schools nationwide. Alongside the production, there will also be workshops for teenagers and families.

Director Diane Page said: “It’s really fantastic to be back at the Globe and to direct The Tempest with our exciting team of actors and creatives. With the theatre full of young people, the atmosphere as close to the original audience 400 years ago, what could be more energising.”
