The cast will feature Meryl Streep as Broadway actress Dee Dee Allen and James Corden as her on stage co-star Barry Glickman with Nicole Kidman and Andrew Rannells playing Broadway performers Angie Dickinson and Trent Oliver respectively. Kevin Chamberlin plays the group’s publicist Sheldon Saperstein and Keegan-Michael Key is high school principal Tom Hawkins.

Ariana DeBose will star in the role of Alyssa while fellow high school student Emma will be played by newcomer Jo Ellen Pellman.

Completing the main cast are Kerry Washington as Ms. Greene, Logan Riley Hassel as Kaylee, Sofia Deler as Shelby, Nico Greetham as Nick Boomer and Nathaniel J. Potvin as Kevin.

The adaption has been directed by Ryan Murphy with the book, music and lyrics written by the Broadway creative team – Matthew Sklar (music), Chad Beguelin (lyrics & book) and Bob Martin (book) – based on the original concept by Jack Viertel.
