Watch In The Heights movie opening number in full!

The first full eight minutes of In The Height’s upcoming movie has been released to watch!

A big screen adaptation of the Tony and Olivier award-winning musical will hit screens in the UK later this month on 18 June.

But before then a first look at the film has been shared online with the movie’s opening number made available to watch right now on YouTube.

The title song introduces us to bodega owner Usnavi and and many other residents of Washington Heights.

The musical follows them all over the course of three days as they discover what it means to be home.

The film adaption features a screenplay by Quiara Alegría Hudes – who wrote the musical’s book – with music and lyrics by Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda. Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians) directs.

Anthony Ramos takes up the lead role of Usnavi with Corey Hawkins as Benny, Melissa Barrera as Vanessa and Leslie Grace as Nina.

Further casting includes Daphne Rubin-Vega as Daniela, Stephanie Beatriz as Carla and Dascha Polanco as Cuca, Olga Merediz as Abuela Claudia, Jimmy Smits as Kevin Rosario, Gregory Diaz IV as Sonny, Noah Catala as Graffiti Pete and Marc Anthony as Mr. de la Vega.

Meanwhile Miranda appears as Piraguero, the Piragua Guy while original Broadway cast member Christopher Jackson has a cameo as Mr. Softee.

The film’s official soundtrack is available for pre-order here, due for release on 11 June. Before then, two songs – the title track and 96,000 – are both available to download and stream now.

In The Heights first premiered in 2005 before debuting on Broadway in 2008 where it won four Tony Awards including Best New Musical.

A West End production ran between 2015 and 2017, winning three Olivier awards.
