White Girl in Danger - Cast Album Cover

Yellow Sound Label has released the original cast album for White Girl in Danger, the latest musical endeavour by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning creator Michael R. Jackson.

The album, capturing the essence of this new and sharply humorous musical, was released on Friday, March 29.

Directed by Tony Award nominee Lileana Blain-Cruz and choreographed by Raja Feather Kelly, White Girl in Danger offers a unique blend of classic soap opera elements, Lifetime movie drama, and intense melodrama. Music supervision for the project was handled by Meg Zervoulis, with orchestrations by Lynne Shankel.

The album, based on last year’s co-production from Vineyard Theatre and Second Stage Theater, is produced by Michael Croiter, Lynne Shankel, and Michael R. Jackson, and co-produced by Meg Zervoulis, with Salman al-Rashid and Accidental Jacket Entertainment serving as executive producers. Lynne Shankel provides orchestrations.

Set in the fictional soap opera town of Allwhite, the narrative follows Keesha Gibbs, portrayed by Latoya Edwards, and her quest to move from the background to the forefront of the town’s most gripping storylines. The musical explores themes of race, media representation, and personal ambition within the high-stakes world of Allwhite, particularly under the threat of the Allwhite Killer.

The cast features a vibrant ensemble including Rocky Anicette, Liz Lark Brown, LaDonna Burns, Alexis Cofield, Kayla Davion, Shane Donovan, Jennifer Fouché, Morgan Siobhan Green, Molly Hager, Ciara Alyse Harris, Vincent Jamal Hooper, James Jackson Jr., Tarra Conner Jones, Alyse Alan Louis, Lauren Marcus, Jon-Michael Reese, Eric William Morris and Natalie Walker.

Creator Michael R. Jackson (A Strange Loop) said: “White Girl in Danger is my satirical love letter to the soap opera genre of my childhood and an emphatic and very Black articulation of my rage against the machinery and narcissism of contemporary American race and racism obsession. It has been my greatest pleasure to return to Yellow Sound Label to get that articulation of rage on the record.”

White Girl in Danger ran from March 14 to April 10, 2023 at Second Stage’s Off-Broadway home, the Tony Kiser Theater.
