Animal Farm musical in development with James Graham, Alan Menken and Glenn Slater

A musical stage adaptation of George Orwell’s Animal Farm is in development.

Adam Spiegel Productions (Motown) is to produce the show while James Graham (Quiz, Finding Neverland, Ink) is to write the book.

Music will be by Alan Menken and lyrics by Glenn Slater, who previously worked together on stage adaptions of The Little Mermaid and Sister Act, as well as Disney’s Tangled.

Further creatives including a director are to be confirmed.

As first reported by the Daily Mail’s Baz Bamigboye, a workshop has been set for the Spring.

First published in 1945, Animal farm by George Orwell is an allegory of the events leading up to the Russian Revolution of 1917 and its aftermath, as told through a group of farm animals who rebel against their human farmer.
