The Manhattan Theatre Club has announced it will host the New York premiere of Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends, a gala celebration of the legendary composer and lyricist’s work.

This production comes on the heels of its acclaimed stint in London in 2022 and recently released cast album.

Devised by theatre titan Cameron Mackintosh, Old Friends will be co-presented with Daryl Roth, showcasing a selection of Sondheim’s most beloved pieces.

The direction will be a collaborative effort between Matthew Bourne and Julia McKenzie with choreography by Stephen Mear.

Broadway veterans Bernadette Peters and Lea Salonga, who led the cast during the concert’s 2023 run in the West End, are set to reprise their roles.

The show’s journey to New York begins with an engagement from 8 February to 9 March 2025 at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles, part of the Center Theatre Group, before moving to its Broadway home.

The official New York run is scheduled to start on 25 March 2025 at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre.
