Cinderella movie cast and release date 2021

A new musical adaption of Cinderella is on it way to the big screen.

Pitch Perfect writer Kay Cannon will pen the screenplay and direct the new film, which is set for release on 16 July 2021.

Camila Cabello will take on the title role of Ella as well as working on music for the film.

Although little is still known about the movie, it’s been reported that the story will be a “feminist retelling” of the classic tale, featuring songs including Beyonce’s Single Ladies.

A source shared with The Sun newspaper: “They want to make her [Cinderella] an inspirational figure for young girls who are watching it, showing they can be strong and independent.”

Billy Porter will star as Fairy Godmother with Idina Menzel as Cinderella’s Stepmother, Maddie Baillio as Anastasia and Charlotte Spencer as Drizella.

Nicholas Galitzine is to play Prince Robert while Pierce Brosnan and Minnie Driver will play the King and Queen.

Comedians John Mulaney, James Corden and Romesh Ranganathan will appear as footmen/mice with Missy Elliot as the Town Crier.

More cast are Beverley Knight, Tallulah Greive as Princess Gwen, Fra Fee as Hench, Luke Latchman as Griff and Mary Higgins as Princess Laura.

A classic fairytale, Cinderella tells the story of a young orphaned girl who is put to work by her evil step mother and bullied by her two step-sisters, until a chance encounter with her Fairy Godmother changes everything.

An exact release date is to be confirmed.
