Curve Leicester releases The Color Purple digital concert to mark Black History Month

Curve Leicester has released The Color Purple digital charity concert to mark Black History Month.

The online production features reflections and performances from cast and creative members of Curve Leicester and Birmingham Hippodrome’s co-production.

The Color Purple – Digital Concert will be captioned and available to watch for free on the Curve website and social media channels until Monday 19 October at 11AM.

Although free to watch, donations are encouraged to help support the theatre as it remains closed due to the pandemic.

The cast of the concert includes Geoff Aymer, Owen Chaponda, Perola Congo, KM Drew Boateng, Danielle Fiamanya, Danielle Kassarate, Anelisa Lamola, Rosemary Annabella Nkrumah, Karen Mavundukure, Jochebel Ohene MacCarthy, Landi Oshinowo, Simon-Anthony Rhoden, Jo Servi and T’Shan Williams.

The production team features director Tinuke Craig with musical direction and piano from Alex Parker, sound mixing by Chris Mock and editing by Ben Hewis.

The Color Purple musical is based on the 1982 novel of the same name by Alice Walker and its 1985 film.

With a book by Marsha Norman and music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis, and Stephen Bra, the musical follows the journey of Celie, an African-American woman in the American South, over 40 years in the mid-20th century.
