Cynthia Erivo to star in new musical drama ‘Talent Show’

Cynthia Erivo is lined up to star in a new musical drama titled ‘Talent Show’.

The story will reportedly followed Erivo as a failed songwriter who takes char of a group of at-risk youths in their talent show.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Lena Waithe (Master of None) has penned the script with Gandja Monteiro (Vida, The Chi) attached to direct.

The story comes from Duane Adler who was behind hit dance films Save the Last Dance and Step Up.

The project is being developed at Universal with dates and further details to be announced.

Cynthia Erivo is a Tony, Emmy and Grammy Award winner for her role in the Broadway revival of The Color Purple

Earlier this year, Erivo received two Oscars nominations for Best Actress and Best Original Song for her work in 2019’s Harriet.

Erivo’s other screen and stage credits include short-lived X Factor musical I Can’t Sing, the UK tour of Sister Act and 2018 film Bad Times at the El Royale.
