Daisy Edgar-Jones to star in film adaptation of Beautiful – The Carole King Musical

Daisy Edgar-Jones will take the title role in a film adaptation of Beautiful – The Carole King Musical.

The hit stage show will be brought to the screen by director Lisa Cholodenko.

Carol King told Variety: “Daisy has a spirit and energy that I recognized as myself when I was younger. She’s a tremendous talent and I know she’s going to give a great performance.”

Based on the story of Carole King’s remarkable rise from singer/songwriter to chart-topping music legend, Beautiful – The Carole King Musical is written by Douglas McGrath, with songs by Carole King, Gerry Goffin, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil.

Cholodenko and Stuart Blumberg will co-write the script for the movie adaptation.

Further details bout the movie, including a release date, are to be announced.

Beautiful – The Carole King Musical first debuted in San Francisco in 2013 ahead of a Broadway bow in 2014 where it ran for over 2,400 performances before closing in 2019.

The production opened in London’s West end in 2015, running to 2017 at the Aldwych Theatre. The show most recently embarked on a third UK tour.
