La La Land stage musical adaptation officially in the works

Hit movie La La Land is to be brought to the stage on Broadway.

The award-winning film starred Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone as a jazz musician and actor their dreams in Hollywood.

Marc Platt (Wicked) will produce the new stage adaptation with Ayad Akhtar and Matthew Decker penning the book, based on Damien Chazelle’s original screenplay.

Bartlett Sher (The King and I, Camelot) will direct the musical which has a score by Justin Hurwitz with lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (The Greatest Showman, Dear Evan Hansen).

Platt said: “I’m thrilled to reunite with Lionsgate and the incredible team behind La La Land to adapt the movie for the Broadway stage, the next exciting chapter in its evolution…

“We’ve assembled a world-class team to create a musical that will delight La La Land’s millions of current fans and introduce the property to a whole new audience.”

Workshops for the show are currently underway in New York.

Further details such as a venue, dates and casting for a premiere are to be announced.
