New casting announced for Les Misérables at the Sondheim Theatre

The latest casting for the much-loved musical Les Misérables at the Sondheim Theatre has been announced.

Swedish sensation Peter Jöback and Dutch talent Milan van Waardenburg are set to take on the iconic role of Jean Valjean in the critically acclaimed production.

Peter Jöback will make his debut in the role from Tuesday, 13 February, continuing until Saturday, 9 March 2024. Milan van Waardenburg will then step into the characters shoes from Monday, 11 March 2024.

These new castings follow the conclusion of Killian Donnellys stint as Jean Valjean, with his final performance scheduled for Saturday, 10 February 2024.

Renowned for his versatility and international success, Peter Jöback makes his return to the West End, marking his first appearance as Jean Valjean in Les Misérables. Jöbacks impressive theatre credentials include roles in Miss Saigon and The Witches of Eastwick at Theatre Royal Drury Lane, and as The Phantom in in both the West End and Broadway.

Milan van Waardenburg, stepping into the role of Jean Valjean, is making his West End debut. He recently led the award-winning Netherlands and Belgium production of Les Misérables, earning critical acclaim and a nomination for Best Leading Actor in a Musical at the 2022 Dutch Musical Awards.

The current cast of Les Misérables includes Bradley Jaden as Javert (with Stewart Clarke returning from 29 January 2024), Katie Hall as Fantine, Will Callan as Marius, Amena El-Kindy as Éponine, Lulu-Mae Pears as Cosette, Luke Kempner as Thénardier, Claire Machin as Madame Thénardier, and Djavan van de Fliert as Enjolras. The company is further complemented by an array of talented performers, such as Annabelle Aquino, Hazel Baldwin, and many others.

This new production of Les Misérables, first conceived by Cameron Mackintosh in 2009 for the show’s 25th anniversary, continues to captivate audiences worldwide. The US production is touring North America in 2024, and the new Korean production currently in Seoul will move to Daegu in March 2024. In December 2024, the Japanese production will open at the Imperial Theatre in Tokyo.

Les Misérables – The Arena Spectacular, an expanded version of the successful Les Misérables – The Staged Concert, is set to open at the SSE Arena Belfast on 19 September 2024. This production will have a limited run in six UK arenas before embarking on an international tour across over 15 countries and regions.
