Nick Jonas to play Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys musical filmed adaptation

Nick Jonas is to star in a new filmed version of the Jersey Boys musical.

Nick will play Frankie Valli in the piece, which is set to be recorded for TV.

Valli himself revealed the news in an interview with The Today Show, adding: “It will be filmed, I think, somewhere in Cleveland, and I will be going there to check it out.”

Matt Bogart will play Nick Massi, Andy Karl will play Tommy DeVito and CJ Pawlikowski will play Bob Gaudio.

More details including further casting and release are to be confirmed. Deadline previously reported that the show could head to a streaming service.

Jersey Boys tells the true story of The Four Seasons, following the fascinating evolution of four blue-collar kids who became one of the greatest successes in pop-music history.

The jukebox features music by Bob Gaudio, lyrics by Bob Crewe, and book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice with songs including “Sherry”, “Big Girls Don’t Cry”, “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You”, “Dawn” and “My Eyes Adored You”.

A new West End revival is to open in London in July before touring in 2022.

The hit show previously spent more than a decade in the capital, first opening at the Prince Edward Theatre before moving to the Piccadilly Theatre in 2014 until 2017.

The Broadway production, which won four Tony Awards including Best Musical, opened in 2005 and ran for more than 4,600 performances until January 2017.
