Some Like It Hot wins Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album

Some Like It Hot picked up the 65th Annual Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album in Sunday’s ceremony.

The Grammy was awarded to an ensemble of principal vocalists and producers who brought the musical to life in its recent Broadway production, including Christian Borle, J. Harrison Ghee, Adrianna Hicks and NaTasha Yvette Williams, alongside Mary-Mitchell Campbell, Bryan Carter, Scott M. Riesett, Charlie Rosen and Marc Shaiman.

Some Like It Hot narrates the escapades of two musicians who go undercover as women and become part of an all-female band as a means to elude the clutches of the mafia, who they’ve inadvertently encountered following a murder..

The musical adaptation has music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman & Shaiman (Hairspray) and a book by Matthew López & Amber Ruffin.

The show played its final performance on Broadway last December. A West End production is planned for 2025 alongside a US tour.

Also nominated for the award this year were Parade, Shucked, Sweeney Todd and Kimberly Akimbo.

Previous winners of the award have included including Into the Woods, The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical, Jagged Little Pill and Hadestown.
