Some Like It Hot musical set to open in West End after Broadway closing

New musical Some Like It Hot is set to open in the West End after announcing its Broadway closing date.

Based on the 1959 film of the same name, Some Like It Hot will play its final performance at the Shubert Theatre on 30 December, just over a year following its opening.

Producers have revealed plans for a US tour next year before a planned West End production in 2025.

They said today: “We are grateful for the opportunity to bring one of the greatest comedy films of all time to the stage with a completely fresh approach.

“We want to thank the creative team, cast and company of Some Like It Hot who have created an entertaining and moving show that has delighted audiences for the past year, bringing joyous laughter to the Shubert Theatre. We are thrilled to see this production’s journey continue beyond Broadway with the national tour next season and a future West End production as well.”

Further details will be announced in due course.

Some Like It Hot narrates the escapades of two musicians who go undercover as women and become part of an all-female band as a means to elude the clutches of the mafia, who they’ve inadvertently encountered following a murder..

The musical adaptation has music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman & Shaiman (Hairspray) and a book by Matthew López & Amber Ruffin.

The Broadway cast is led by Christian Borle, J. Harrison Ghee, Adrianna Hicks, Kevin Del Aguila, NaTasha Yvette Williams, Adam Heller and Mark Lotito.

An original cast recording was released earlier this year.

Casey Nicholaw directs and choreographs the show with set design by Scott Pask, costume design by Gregg Barnes, lighting design by Natasha Katz, sound design by Brian Ronan, hair and wigs by Josh Marquette, make up by Milagros Medina-Cerdiera, music supervisor Mary-Mitchell Campbell, music director Darryl Archibald, orchestrations by Charlie Rosen and Bryan Carter, dance and incidental music arrangements by Glen Kelly.
