The Gardens of Anuncia musical cast recording to be released
An original cast recording of the Lincoln Center Theater production of The Gardens of Anuncia is to be released.
Ghostlight Records will release the album in 2024, featuring the book, music, and lyrics by Michael John LaChiusa and directed and co-choreographed by Graciela Daniele.
The recording will be produced by Lawrence Manchester and Michael John LaChiusa.
The Gardens of Anuncia signifies the fourth successful collaboration between LaChiusa and Daniele at Lincoln Center Theater that has led to an original cast recording. Their previous works include Hello Again (1994), Marie Christine (1999) and Bernarda Alba (2006).
The musical opened in November 2023 at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater. It boasts an impressive cast including Enrique Acevedo, Andréa Burns, Eden Espinosa, Priscilla Lopez, Tally Sessions, Mary Testa and Kalyn West.
Developed and produced initially at the Old Globe, The Gardens of Anuncia is inspired by the early life of Broadway legend Graciela Daniele. The story, as told by Anuncia (played by Priscilla Lopez), is a reflection on her youth in Juan Perón’s Argentina and is a tribute to the women in her family whose sacrifices enabled her artistic journey. The musical, infused with tango rhythms and celebrating the exuberance of life, has been widely acclaimed for its poignant, humorous, and beautiful narrative.
The production includes co-choreography by Alex Sanchez, orchestrations by Michael Starobin, and music direction by Deborah Abramson. The impressive creative team also includes Tara Rubin Casting, set designs by Mark Wendland, costume designs by Toni-Leslie James, and sound by Drew Levy.
This album marks the seventh collaboration between Ghostlight and Michael John LaChiusa, adding to their repertoire of celebrated recordings.
