Watch Wicked celebrate 20 years with epic Defying Gravity performance

Watch a special performance of Defying Gravity as iconic musical Wicked celebrates its 20th anniversary.

This year marks two decades since the premiere production of Wicked, opening first in San Francisco before transferring to Broadway where it opened on 30 October 2003.

To mark the anniversary current Broadway Elphaba, Alyssa Fox is joined by current Broadway Standby, Mary Kate Morrissey and former Elphabas Jackie Burns and Jenny DiNoia in a special rendition of Defying Gravity.

Wicked, the acclaimed Broadway production, explores the events that occurred in the Land of Oz, albeit from a unique perspective.

Before Dorothy’s appearance, there was another young woman, born with emerald-green skin, who was intelligent, spirited, misunderstood, and possessed extraordinary abilities. When she encounters a cheerful blonde girl who is exceptionally popular, their initial competition transforms into the most improbable of friendships.

However, the world eventually labels one as “good” and the other as “wicked.”

Wicked continues to run on Broadway at the Gershwin Theatre while the West End production is at the Apollo Victoria Theatre.

A new UK tour of Wicked will also be launching later this year.
