Wonka movie musical UK release date and trailer with Timothée Chalamet

Timothée Chalame stars in a musical movie prequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Titled Wonka, Timothée Chalamet will take on the lead role of the film which is set in England amid the industrial revolution in the 1800s.

The musical will focus on a young Willy Wonka before he opened his iconic chocolate factory.

A release date for the movie is currently set for 8 December 2023 in the UK and 15 December internationally.

Paddington director Paul King will direct and co-write the screenplay with Simon Farnaby.

Further casting includes Rowan Atkinson, Olivia Colman and Sally Hawkins as well as Hugh Grant.

Also on the star-filled cast are Tom Davis, Simon Farnaby, Rich Fulcher, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Paterson Joseph, Keegan-Michael Key, Calah Lane, Matt Lucas, Colin O’Brien, Natasha Rothwell, Rakhee Thakrar and Ellie White.

Written by Roald Dahl, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was first published in 1964. A first movie adaptation was released in 1971 starring Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka while a 2005 remake starred Johnny Depp.

Meanwhile a stage musical adaptation of the book opened in London’s West End in 2013 before transferring to Broadway in 2017, featuring a score by Hairspray’s Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.
